AGE 4-7

Group of children performing a dance on stage, wearing colorful costumes with red, white, and green patterns.

Our Opal class introduces children to the basic skills of Street Dance. Each 45-minute class starts with a fun warm-up game before moving on to travelling exercises and learning choreography to create a full routine. Perfect for our youngest dancers, this class teaches the foundational skills needed to progress to more advanced Street Dance classes.

As with all of our classes, our main aim is to provide a high-quality dance lesson in an environment that allows our students to feel comfortable expressing themselves, boosting their confidence, and getting excited to come back for more week after week.

Crystals is our intermediate level street dance class which our Opals can progress to with the prospect of eventually becoming Diamonds. In this class we teach more intermediate dance techniques which give our students the foundations to prepare them for the advanced Diamond class. Each class starts with a dance warm-up working on basic fitness and flexibility before moving on to exercises focused on a specific dance technique and finishing with learning the next section of choreography for our current dance routine.

In our experience we have found that boosting confidence for this age group is essential which makes it our main focus. We often get our dancers to showcase parts of the class in smaller groups encouraging positive feedback from their peers. It is such a pleasure to watch each and every one of our Crystals shine brighter and brighter during their time with us.

AGE 8-12 / 13+

Jets is our ‘boys only’ street dance class which aims to create a safe space to encourage boys specifically to learn the art of dance. This high energy class teaches our Jets how to channel their energy into choreographed dance routines. The skills they learn can also be transferable to other activities including co-ordination and teamwork.

These classes start with a high energy warm up, muscle strengthening exercises and short fitness drills before moving on to learn the next section of our current dance routine.

We offer both a Jet Juniors and Jet Seniors class to separate our younger and older students and both classes are always an audience highlight at our annual summer showcase.

Although some of our classes are described as gender specific, please do not hesitate to enquire about any of our classes regardless of your child's gender.

AGE 13+

Group of dancers performing on stage, wearing plaid shirts and dark pants, illuminated by purple and pink stage lights.

Diamonds is our top level street dance class for students aged 13+. We don’t limit the age group on this class as our Diamonds rarely want to leave us! This class focuses on the most advanced choreography across all classes at Rachael Reynolds School of Dance and prepares our students for future College and University dance or performance based courses.

This hour long class begins with an intense physical warm-up aimed to increase fitness levels and strengthen muscles all to assist with improving our student’s dance skills. We specifically focus on core strength to help improve our Diamonds control through their dance routines. After the warm-up we focus on travelling exercises or perfecting a particular dance skill before learning the next section of our current dance routine.

ALL AGES

Popular with all ages, our Musical Theatre classes incorporate all three disciplines: Dancing, Singing, and Acting. Each term we focus on numerous songs from well-known musicals and produce fully choreographed numbers to accompany them.

We offer four MT classes separated by age: Mini MT (age 4-7), MT Juniors (age 8-12), MT Seniors (age 13-17) & Adult MT (age 18+).

Each class contains elements of all three musical theatre disciplines. We work on vocal technique, choreography, improvisation, script work, and often a full production number from a musical.

This class also inspires students by introducing them to musicals they may never have encountered before, exploring a wide variety of styles, stories, and performance techniques to fuel their creativity and passion for musical theatre.

Students of all ages not only develop their skills in singing, dancing, and acting, but also gain confidence, teamwork and a love for performance. Each class is a fun, supportive space where creativity is encouraged and every student has the chance to shine.

ALL AGES

Launched in 2023, our tap classes have already proved very popular for both children and adults - whether you’re looking to revisit a previously loved skill or try out a brand-new dance style.

This percussive dance form is a fantastic way to improve rhythm, timing, and coordination, all while having fun!

Led by our fabulous teacher Melissa (who just happens to be a fiercely talented tapper herself), each class begins with a warm-up to loosen up the feet and ankles while introducing the core fundamentals. We then move on to learning and developing steps that progress in complexity, ensuring dancers continue to build strong technique and confidence at their own pace.

For adults, we offer both Beginner and Intermediate classes. Beginners focus on mastering the basics, while Intermediates can challenge themselves with more intricate footwork and combinations.

Each level works towards learning routines that are tailored to ability, allowing every tapper to fully express themselves through this dynamic and timeless art form.

We offer tap classes for all ages from 4 through to adults.

AGE 8 - Adults

Group of young women in casual clothing performing a dance routine on stage with pink and purple lighting.

Very similar to contemporary dance and incorporating a mixture of ballet and jazz techniques, the routines we teach in these classes are of a slower pace and tend to incorporate moves which ‘tell a story’ alongside the chosen song at the time.

After our adult lyrical class made a huge impression in our 2023 summer showcase, we were inundated with our younger students who also wanted to learn this style. In turn, this led to us launching both our Junior and Senior lyrical classes in September 2023.

For adults, we now offer both Beginner and Intermediate lyrical classes. The Beginner level provides a welcoming introduction for those new to dance, while the Intermediate level challenges more experienced dancers with greater complexity and emotional depth.

Due to its slightly slower pace, this style is a wonderful starting point if you’re just beginning your dance journey. While the routines can still present a challenge, the music choice and emotion-driven movements have proved to be almost therapeutic for our students- an inspiring escape from everyday life.

AGE 18+

Group of dancers performing on stage, dressed in red and blue sports-inspired outfits, under dramatic lighting with dark background.

No matter your age, gender, confidence level or dance experience, our adult street classes welcome everyone! This style was first introduced when a couple of our students’ mums suggested there should also be an option for them. Since that day, the class has gone from strength to strength and is always a fan favourite in our Showcases. We now run three adult street classes every week- one Beginner and two Intermediate.

Each class kicks off with a high-energy aerobic warm-up designed to get everyone moving and ready for the choreography ahead. Beginners enjoy a supportive environment with accessible routines that build confidence and core street dance skills, while Intermediates can challenge themselves with faster, more intricate combinations.

Whether you’re missing your old ‘dance school’ days, want to do something just for YOU, or have never expanded your skills past a casual ‘two-step’ in the local club, there’s a class to suit your level - and plenty of laughs to go around!

Led by our knowledgeable and experienced coaches, our one to one dance and singing lessons offer students a bespoke weekly session to improve their performance skills.

During a typical vocal session they will learn about the foundations of singing including breath control, pitch and voice quality. They will also work towards mastering the performance of an entire song of their choice and how to apply the skills they have learnt to this performance.

During a typical dance session they will have the opportunity to focus on a specific technique they may be struggling with in a class environment and depending on their individual request can work towards a short dance routine while having the sole attention of one of our fabulous teachers.

These classes go hand in hand with our other timetabled classes or can be booked separately and have been a success in improving some of our more reserved student’s confidence in their group classes.
